Go On - Do it for the village

Initiatives arising as a result of the Village Plan exercise (see Parish Council / Village Plan) come together under the heading of Village Voice.

Initiatives may be 'owned' either by:
  • The Parish Council (e.g. initiatives concerning planning, housing, roads, etc.
  • The Village Plan Steering Group (e.g. initiatives which facilitate the work of the Steering Group)
  • Village Teams - working on substantial areas of village improvements supported by the Steering Group
  • Individuals - who require little or no assistance to work on an initiative which they feel will improve the village

Gas for Chapmanslade - Final Statement (for now …)

After extensive efforts the most recent attempt to get a gas supply to the village has failed to gain sufficient support.

Earlier this year (2017) Wales & West Utilities contacted every household in the village saying that they needed 62 positive responses to get the scheme underway. Unfortunately they only received about half of the required number and therefore the scheme was not viable for Wales & West Utilities to implement. Possibly the relatively low number of responses (compared to their previous proposal in 2013/14) was the result of a significant cost increase.

We learned a lot from this most recent attempt and the project will be kept under review as a supply may become viable at a later date – especially if there was to be a significant housing development in the village (e.g. at Barters Farm).

This 'closed' community Facebook group goes from strength to strength. It has become an important communication tool - acting as a means of sharing information around the village on a daily basis.

lr web pTraffic issues topped the list of concerns expressed during the recent ‘Voice of the Village’ exercise initiated by the Parish Council. Reducing the number of lorries of 18 tonnes or over driving through the village was something that the Village Voice Steering Group decided could be embarked upon immediately - so LORRY WATCH was started, primarily using the Chapmanslade Community Facebook group (another Village Voice Initiative which now has 99 members) as a quick way for villagers to report a lorry’s details – including if possible, Registration Number, Transport Company, number of axles, direction and time of travel. Some quick acting villagers even post photos, which is particularly helpful.
